Dear Councilor, Professor, Director, Teacher, Student,
The Coordinating Scientific Committee of the Fifth Annual European Competition of Ancient Greek Language and Culture wishes to remind you that the Competition is organized by the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs of Greece- through the Directorate of International Relations in Education- and the Pedagogical Institute, in co-operation with the Pan-Hellenic Association of Teachers for the Greek Language and Civilization, the Society of Greek Scholars, the European Cultural Centre of Delphi, the Organization for the Internationalization of the Greek Language and the Hellenic Language Heritage. The Competition aims at promoting the classical studies among pupils of lyceums of Europe, where the Ancient Greek Language is taught.
The syllabus for the Fifth competition refers to the thematic area of «Παιδεία – Δημοκρατία» («Education – Democracy») and is the following:
For students of the last grade of lyceum of European countries:
a) Πλάτωνος : «Νόμοι»: 641e- 644 b («’Αλλά χρή ποιεί ούτως………. διά βίου παντί κατά δύναμιν»)
b)Λουκιανού: «Περί του ενυπνίου ήτοι βίος Λουκιανού»
According to the circular letter number 103220/I/4-10-2005, the deadline for sending the application forms for the participation in the Competition expired the 30th of November 2005.
The Coordinating Scientific Committee has decided to extend the deadline until December 23rd, 2005, wishing to increase the participation of the European lyceums.
In this regard, the lyceums that wish to participate in this Competition should submit their application form until Christmas time. The form can be sent by e-mail and/or fax to the e-mail address and fax number of the Greek Ministry of Education, Directorate of International Relations in Education: Fax: +30 210 3221521, E-mail:des-b@ypepth.gr
The examination will take place on Thursday 26th January 2006 at 11:00, Greek time, for the students of the last grade of lyceum in European countries.
The topics will be sent by fax to the participants.
In order to satisfy the requests of the schools of the Flemish community as well as the schools from Graz, Austria, the Coordinating Scientific Committee has accepted that these schools will participate in the competition of Ancient Greek on Wednesday 15th February 2006, at 10.00, Greek time.
For all the other European Schools the competition will be carried out on 26th January 2006.
Nevertheless, if any other school wishes to participate in the competition on 15th February 2006, we would like them to inform the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs about their decision in time, at the above fax number or e-mail.
On 15th February 2006, the Flemish students and the students from Graz, Austria, will be given different topics – however from the same syllabus - from the ones of the competition of the 26th January. These topics will have the same form and will be equivalent to the ones of the 26th January.
